In Vitro Fertilization is probably the most advanced Infertility treatment that we currently have.
At the Midwest Fertility Center we try to offer it to all patients that actually need it.
The process is divided into two phases:
The first phase is stimulation of the woman. We do need as many Eggs as we can get. So we start with stimulation using injectable medications. Once the woman is ready, with an Ultrasound, we guide a needle into the Ovaries, and we actually aspirate all the Eggs out of the Ovaries and then we fertilize these Eggs.
Sometimes we fertilize them simply by incubating the Eggs with Sperm; At other times we might inject the Eggs directly with the Sperm using ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
Once the Fertilization occurs, we then grow the Embryos in the lab anywhere from two days - to five to six days, getting to a full developed blactocyst, and then we will transfer these Embryos into the Uterine cavity to hopefully achieve a successful pregnancy.
