Clomid And Letrozole Specialist

Infertility is more common than you might think — one in 10 women of childbearing age has trouble getting or staying pregnant because they don’t ovulate regularly. Clomid and Letrozole are two medications proven to be highly effective in inducing ovulation. At the Midwest Fertility Center, Dr. Amos E. Madanes has used these drugs to help countless women in Chicago and northern Indiana overcome PCOS-related ovulation issues. To discuss which option is right for you, call or schedule an appointment online.

How does PCOS cause infertility?

Women with PCOS have a hormonal imbalance preventing their ovaries from releasing eggs on a regular basis. Without ovulation, your eggs can’t be fertilized, and you can’t get pregnant.

Dr. Madanes often prescribes Clomid and Letrozole for women with ovulation issues related to PCOS; these medications are highly successful in helping to induce ovulation.

How does Clomid work?

Clomid is an oral medication taken early in the menstrual cycle to induce ovulation. While you’re using the drug, Dr. Madanes monitors your progress and adjusts your dosage as needed. Ovulation usually occurs 8-10 days after taking Clomid.

Clomid is a highly effective option for addressing infertility: Nearly three-quarters of women with PCOS ovulate with Clomid, and half of those become pregnant. Clomid is affordable and has no long-term side effects, making it an ideal fertility option for women who don’t ovulate.

Like other fertility methods, however, Clomid does increase the chance of multiple births.

What is Letrozole?

If Clomid doesn’t work for you, Dr. Madanes may suggest another ovulation drug called Letrozole. Letrozole is an oral medication taken midway through your menstrual cycle. In women with anovulation, Letrozole increases the level of FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) in the body, which induces the ovary to develop and release an egg.

Women under 35 with no other fertility issues who ovulate with Letrozole have a 15% chance of getting pregnant every month. Letrozole offers hope to women who don’t ovulate with Clomid, ovulate but don’t get pregnant with Clomid, or don’t respond well to Clomid’s side effects and want to try something else.
